Hi everybody!

Please take a look at these reminders for this week:

  • Publix Math Night is this Thursday (October 12th) at 5:00 pm at the Publix at Paces Ferry Center. Students who attend and complete their scavenger hunt will earn a treat!
  • This Thursday is Early Release. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM. If you need a transportation change for your child on this day, please make sure to submit it to me in writing (no changes through email/fax/phone are allowed).
  • Next week is Conference Week. Please remember to sign up for your conference date/time on my Sign Up Page. We will have early release every day during conference week.

Here is our classroom weekly update:

Reading: Our focus this week will be on finding main idea of informational text. Students will use supporting details from the text to determine the main idea. We will have a test on Friday.

Writing: Now that our Narratives are done, we are moving on to Opinion Writing! This week is our introduction to opinion writing, and we will learn how to form and write about our opinions.

Social Studies: Last week, we finished up our study of Geography. On Friday, we will have a test over the United States Regions and how to read a compass. A study guide was sent home today. The practice pages in the study guide do not have to be turned in and should remain at home for studying purposes. For the rest of the week, we will begin talking about European Explorers and the impact they had on the development of North America.

Math: This week in math, we will be focusing on multiplicative comparisons. An example of a multiplicative comparison statement would be “4 times as many as 5 is 20” because 4 x 5 = 20. Students should be able to write comparison statements from equations, and vice versa. Our test will be next Tuesday (October 17th).

Spelling: Spelling words this week are words with the short i sound. Students were given spelling packets today and the words are also located on my Spelling City page. Our test will be on Friday.

That’s it for this week! Have a great afternoon!

-Ms. Allison
